DATA
Data is divided into 3 parts, water property data, which consists of temperature and salinity, if available at that depth, and velocity, consisting of u and v components. All files are text, tab delimited.
All the data has been filtered to eliminate the tidal signal using the standard OSU low-pass filter with a half-power point of 46 hrs and decimated to 6 hours.
The small gaps between deployments were filled using linear interpolation. However, there was one 47 day gap, April 11, 2001 to May 27, 2001 (after filtering), in the mooring data caused when the instrument broke loose and subsequently was recovered and redeployed. The gap was not filled. Year 2001 is broken into 2 parts, 2001a and 2001b.
Water property data
Water property data on the Grays Harbor mooring consists of temperature and salinity at 15m, temperature at 17m, temperature at 28m, and temperature and salinity at 36m. They are listed in a matrix format. The first row contains column headers, date, time, followed by the variables.
Temperature columns have a header beginning with GH for the Grays Harbor data, T to indicate temperature followed by the depth in meters. For example, GHT15 means the data is temperature from the Grays Harbor mooring at 15m. Salinity columns have similar headers. For example, GHS36 means the data is salinity from the Grays Harbor mooring at 36m.
Units are temperature: degrees C, salinity: PSU
Date and time is listed as GDATE to indicate time in GMT, format mm/dd/yy hh:mm
Water property data begins 5/10/2000 and ends 10/25/03.
During the first deployment 2 of the temperature sensors (GHT17 & GHT28) ran out of memory so there is a gap filled with zeroes from 10/16/2000 12:00 through 11/17/00 12:00. The top three instruments were missing when the 6th deployment was recovered so GHT15, GHS15, & GHT17 are filled with zeroes from 10/272002 06:00 - 6/18/2003 06:00.
Velocity data
Velocity data on the Grays Harbor mooring consists of velocity profile data presented in a matrix format. The first row contains column headers, date, time, followed by the depth.
Units used are: u component, v component: cm/sec, true North.
Date and time is listed as GDATE to indicate time in GMT, format mm/dd/yy hh:mm.
Velocity columns have a header indicating the depth. For example GHu10 indicates the data is from the u component on the Grays Harbor mooring, at 10m.
Velocity data begins 5/10/2000 and ends 10/25/03. The data at Grays Harbor is in 2 meter increments. The shallowest is 6m, and the deepest is at 30m.
During the second deployment (Nov. 17, 2000 - April 11, 2001) no data was returned in the bottom bin. Velocity at 30m was computed using a regression beween 28m and 30m for the rest of the time period (June 2001- Oct. 2003).
